Pedro García

PhD student

Pedro was born in Valencia (1992). He obtained his bachelor degree in Biotechnology (2014) at the Universitat Politècnica de València. During this time he trained on various biological and molecular techniques during internships at Hospital General de Valencia and at the Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe. His Bachelor thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Knecht’s, produced a new diagnostic tool for a rare neurodegenerative disorder. Afterwards, he moved to Sweden to join the Master of Medical Science in Molecular Medicine at Uppsala University. He worked at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (LICR) in the group of Prof. Moustakas where he studied the molecular regulation of key aspects of Glioblastoma-Initiating Cells (GICs). His Master thesis at LICR obtained the highest distinction (2017). Pedro likes the interface between science and technology and has participated in different competitions such as SensUs, the first international competition on health biosensors. He is also member of the EIT-Health community, which allows him to nurture his innovation and entrepreneurship skills. Recently Pedro obtained the prestigious La Caixa-Marie Curie Sklodowska INPhINIT fellowship (2017) for pursuing his PhD at the Brain Metastasis Group. His goal is to characterize at the molecular level the interaction between metastatic cells and blood vessels during brain colonization.
