Leticia Cuarental

Postdoc

Leticia was born in Madrid (1993). She graduated in Pharmacy at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2017). During this time, she performed various internships at CNIO (2014, Madrid), CIQUS (2015, Santiago de Compostela) and Ljubljana University (2016, Slovenia) improving her knowledge of experimental therapies for oncology and antibiotics drug development. Later, she got a Collaboration Fellow from the Spanish Ministry, and she could explore the neuroprotective properties of synthetized nitrones. Her bachelor’s thesis on Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors for Cancer Treatment received the best distinction and was recognized for her high academic performance. Afterward, she obtained her PhD in Pharmacology and Physiology (2022, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid). She contributed to the knowledge of molecular regulation of kidney diseases at Alberto Ortiz’s Lab and the University of Zurich (2021). Her PhD work was distinguished with Summa Cum Laude, International Mention, Extraordinary PhD Award and Margarita Salas Award 2023. She developed her first junior postdoc at Erasmus Medical Center (2024, Rotterdam, Netherlands) on iPSC-derived organoids for kidney transplantation. Currently, she has been selected as a CNIO Friends Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Brain Metastasis Lab where she will research the role of astrocytes on metastases modulation. Throughout her scientific career, she remarks on the potential of science communication for society. She has attended several national and international congresses for expert audiences and also participated in dissemination activities for non-expert public.
