Diana Retana Fernández

Senior laboratory technician

Diana was born in Madrid (1984). After obtaining a degree in Chemical Analysis and Quality Control in 2004 she graduated in Biology (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, UCM). Diana did her Bachelor Thesis in the laboratory of Dra. Martínez-Delgado (ISCIII), working on the deficit of alpha-1 antitrypsin and investigating the mechanisms that regulate the transcription of serpins. Afterwards, she carried out a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine (UCM) and worked in the laboratory of Dr. Garrido (Instituto Cajal) working on axon development for her Master´s thesis. From 2004 to 2018 she worked as Senior Technician in different research centers, participating in different projects and managing a big range of molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culture and animal experimentation techniques. At the beginning of 2019 she worked as Manager of the Tissue Bank (Getafe University Hospital) obtaining and maintaining the quality of these human tissue. Her interest in basic and clinical research, the molecular biology of cancer and previous experience in Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology brought Diana to become a member of the Brain Metastasis Group in 2019.
