Cátia Monteiro was born in Oporto in 1985. She graduated in Biology in 2008 at the Faculty of Sciences (Porto) and did his Master’s thesis at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology working on leptin receptor SNPs and their association with tumor progression in prostate cancer. Cátia gained more experience in research by working in several laboratories before starting a PhD in the Brain Metastasis Group. Through several research stays (2009-2014) Cátia has produced eight research articles, including a main author paper, and has presented her work at international scientific conferences. Her training encompasses different fields of oncology, including the role of therapy in the tumor microenvironment and the influence of metabolic diseases in cancer. She joined the laboratory in 2015 to develop new preclinical models of brain metastasis to understand the cellular and molecular basis of relapse after radiation therapy.
Catia is the beneficiary of a fellowship from the Foundation for a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) for doctoral studies.
